Measuring Principle

Ultrasonic thickness gauge determines the sample thickness by measuring the amount of time it takes for a sound pulse, generated by an ultrasonic transducer, to travel through a test piece and reflect from the inside surface or a far wall

In Pulse-Echo mode it measures the time taken for the pulse to travel from backwall, consequently measuring the total thickness of the sample

In Echo-Echo mode, it measures the time taken between the first echo and the next, thereby eliminating paint or coating thickness and measuring total thickness minus the coating thickness, hence, called through coating thickness
